Dependency on WMP11 for WMV playback?

For the stock MediaElement on WPF in XP there's a prerequisite of WMP11 to play WMV files. Is this also required for WPF MediaKit?

It is not based on WMP in any way. It is a full featured replacement for MediaElement.  It, like WMP though or MediaElement, does not include any default codecs so you will need to make sure you have them installed for whatever you are trying to decode.

Thanks. I figured this out through trial and error, but your comment helped me troubleshoot another bug. Apparently XP SP2/3 out of the box can't play WMV's encoded with Live Movie Maker. I had to encode my video clip using an .avi and microsoft's Video 1 codec.
